CryoPen O+ ®
CryoPen® Cryotherapy (Skin Lesion Removal)
Fast, precise removal of benign skin lesions using the CryoPen® O+, an advanced cryosurgery device. A fine jet of ultra-cold nitrous oxide is applied directly to the lesion, freezing and destroying the unwanted tissue in seconds while leaving the surrounding healthy skin untouched. Most lesions are fully removed in a single session, with little to no downtime and minimal aftercare.
Whether it's a skin tag that catches on clothing, a wart you've been hiding for years, or an age spot that makes you reach for concealer every morning, these small imperfections can undoubtedly affect how you feel about your skin. CryoPen® removes them quickly and cleanly, leaving smooth, clear skin and the confidence that comes with it.
Every treatment includes a complimentary consultation to assess your lesion, confirm it is suitable for treatment, and answer any questions. Uniquely, the service also includes direct access to a consultant dermatologist for mole checks, with results typically within 48 hours, so nothing is treated without the right clinical assessment first.
What it treats
CryoPen® is suitable for a wide range of common benign skin lesions, including:
Skin tags
Warts and verrucae
Age spots and pigmented spots (solar lentigo)
Seborrheic keratoses
Cherry angiomas (haemangioma)
Molluscum contagiosum
Its precision tip makes it safe to use on delicate areas, including the face and around the eyes, and it can treat lesions from 1mm up to 20mm.
What it is not for
CryoPen® is only for benign (non-cancerous) lesions. It is not used on any lesion that is suspicious, undiagnosed, or changing in size, shape or colour, and moles are never treated without prior specialist review. That is where our mole check service comes in.
Included mole checks with a consultant dermatologist
Unsure whether your lesion is a mole, or simply want reassurance before removal? This service includes a unique clinical safety pathway:
Initial assessment. Claire examines the lesion at your consultation. If it is clearly a benign lesion such as a skin tag or wart, treatment can proceed straight away.
Consultant dermatologist review. If the lesion is a mole, a high-quality image is taken and securely sent to a consultant dermatologist for expert review, with results typically within 48 hours.
Treatment or referral. If the dermatologist confirms the mole is benign, it can be treated by Claire using the CryoPen®. If any further investigation is recommended, you will be referred to a specialist with the dermatologist's report to support you.
With NHS dermatology waiting times currently stretching to many months, this pathway offers rare peace of mind: expert input within days, and the confidence that nothing is ever frozen without the right diagnosis behind it.
What to expect
Treatment takes just a few seconds per lesion, typically 3 to 15 seconds depending on the type and size. You may feel a brief cold, stinging sensation, similar to a nettle sting, which settles quickly. The treated area may look red or blister slightly, then form a small scab that falls away naturally over one to two weeks as new skin forms underneath. Larger or deeper lesions, such as stubborn verrucae, occasionally need a second treatment.
Safety and aftercare
Performed by a trained, insured practitioner using a medically certified device
Keep the area clean and dry; avoid picking or scratching the scab
Apply SPF to treated areas on the face or exposed skin while they heal
Temporary lightening or darkening of the skin at the treatment site is possible, particularly on darker skin tones; this usually settles over time
Not suitable during pregnancy, over infected skin, or for those with cold-triggered conditions such as cryoglobulinaemia or cold urticaria; suitability is confirmed at consultation
Why choose this service?
Since the NHS stopped routinely removing benign skin lesions in GP surgeries, private cryotherapy has become the go-to option. CryoPen® offers a safe, comfortable and highly effective alternative to surgical removal, with no needles, no cutting and no stitches. Combined with built-in consultant dermatologist input, it is a level of clinical assurance few clinics can offer.
